What to Expect on a Private Boat Charter in Malta

You’ve found Nautiful, you’re considering booking a private charter, and you want to know what you’re actually signing up for. Good. Here’s an honest, practical account of what a day on a private boat charter in Malta looks like — from the moment you arrive at the departure point to the moment you step back ashore.

Before the Day: Planning Your Itinerary

When you book with Nautiful, we don’t hand you a fixed itinerary and tell you to like it. We ask you what you want. Some groups have a clear vision — Blue Lagoon, caves, secluded beach, done. Others aren’t sure and want our skipper to take the lead. Both approaches work perfectly.

Before your charter day, we’ll confirm the plan: departure time, route, any special requests (snorkelling stop, a particular bay, wine on board). Nothing is set in stone — the skipper can adjust on the day based on conditions and what your group feels like.

Departure: What to Expect in the Morning

Your skipper will meet you at the agreed departure point — typically on Malta’s north coast for Comino and Blue Lagoon charters. Arrive with your sunscreen on, towels packed, and food and drinks ready. There’s no provisioning service at the marina, so bring everything you need for the day.

The Axopar 37 is a serious day boat — fast, comfortable, and built for exactly this kind of charter. Your skipper will give you a brief safety rundown, show you where everything is, and then you’re off. The feeling when you leave the harbour and the open sea opens up in front of you is one of the best parts of the day.

On the Water: How a Typical Day Flows

A full-day charter (7 hours) typically includes 4 to 5 stops. Your skipper navigates between them while you relax on deck, take in the coastline, or chat about what’s coming next. The pace is entirely yours — nobody is rushing you because there’s no group schedule to keep.

At each stop, the skipper anchors in the best available spot. At the Blue Lagoon, that means away from the ferry jetty in clearer, calmer water. At a secluded bay, it might mean anchoring just metres from an empty beach. You swim from the boat, snorkel, sunbathe on deck, or go ashore — whatever suits you.

What’s Included

  • The Axopar 37 exclusively for your group (up to 11 guests)
  • A licensed, English-speaking local skipper for the full day
  • Fuel and all navigation costs
  • A customised itinerary built around what your group wants
  • Life jackets and all required safety equipment

What to Bring

  • Food and drinks for the day — there are no shops or restaurants once you’re out on the water
  • High-factor sunscreen — the Maltese sun is significantly more intense than Northern Europe
  • Towels and swimwear — you will be swimming
  • A hat and light cover-up for the cruising sections
  • Snorkelling gear if you have it — though the skipper can advise on the best snorkelling spots regardless
  • A camera or fully charged phone — you will want photos

Is It Suitable for Families with Children?

Absolutely. The Axopar 37 is stable, spacious, and the shaded seating area means younger children aren’t baking in full sun all day. Your skipper will choose calmer, shallower anchoring spots for families — perfect for kids to jump off the back of the boat and swim back around. Many of our most enthusiastic reviews come from families who say it was the highlight of their Malta holiday. What About Weather?

Malta has one of the most reliable climates in the Mediterranean. From May through October, the weather is almost entirely sunny with very little rain. The sea is calm for the vast majority of the season. If conditions are unsuitable for safety reasons on your charter day, we’ll reschedule or refund in full — but in practice this is rare.

Half-Day vs Full-Day: Which Should You Book?

A half-day charter (4 hours) is a great choice if you have other plans for the day, are travelling with very young children, or simply want a taste of the sea without committing to a full day. You’ll still hit the Blue Lagoon and a second stop comfortably.

A full day (7 hours) is for anyone who wants the full experience — multiple locations, a proper swim stop at each, time to relax on deck between them, and that golden-hour sail back to Malta at the end of the day. Most guests who’ve done both say the full day is worth it every time.

Ready to Book?

Nautiful charters are available from May through October. Peak season (June–August) books up quickly — if you have a specific date in mind, don’t leave it too long. Get in touch and we’ll build the perfect day for your group.
